Top Ten tips for hosting a sucessful children’s birthday party

We all know that for some people, entertaining children for a birthday party can fill a parent with dread, here are ten top tips to help!

  1. Plan Ahead: Start planning the party well in advance to ensure everything is organized and ready on the day of the event. Create a checklist of tasks and deadlines to stay on track with preparations.
  2. Choose a Theme: Select a theme that appeals to the age group and interests of the children. A theme can tie together decorations, activities, and even the cake, making the party more cohesive and memorable.
  3. Send Invitations Early: Send out invitations early to give guests plenty of notice and time to RSVP. Include important details such as the date, time, location, and any special instructions or requests.
  4. Don’t overdo the Food: Keep a range of healthy snacks and treats for party food. Consider dietary restrictions and allergies and provide alternatives if needed.

What to do with left over Easter Eggs

Now that Easter is over, you may have several chocolate eggs left? And how ever much you may want to eat them, will power is taking over (or not?) and the time has come to clear them out..

Why not try this quick and easy recipe to use up your chocolate eggs and keep the children entertained…

Chocolate Refrigerator Cake

You will need;

  • 8oz Digestive Biscuits
  • 2oz Butter (unsalted preferably but salted butter will work)
  • 5oz golden syrup
  • Two large Easter Eggs approx 10oz in weight

Optional extras – Try adding marshmallows and glace cherries to make it in to a rocky road.

How to…

  1. Using an 8inch square tin or silicon cake mould, lightly grease the tin/mould with butter.
  2. Place biscuits in to a plastic bag with a seal and bash in to smaller chunks with a rolling pin.
  3. Melt the butter, chocolate and golden syrup in a glass bowl, over a saucepan of simmering water.
  4. Once melted, remove from the heat and add the biscuits and any other ingredients you want to add. Stir well.
  5. Transfer in to a cake tin, press firmly and place the mixture in to the fridge to set for approx an hour.
  6. Remove the chilled cake from the tin/silicone mould and cut in to squares

Easy Chocolate Truffle Recipe

Ingredients

  • 300g good quality chocolate (if you are using dark chocolate, ensure it is a minimum of 70% cocoa solids) if not in chunks, you will need to chop it up.
  • 300ml Double Cream
  • 10g Liquid Glucose (Optional)
  • Knob of butter

Method

  • Heat the Double cream and liquid glucose in the microwave on full power for approx 1 minute or until the cream is boiling.
  • Add chocolate chunks and emulsify, let this cool.
  • When cool, add any flavours eg Raspberry, Mint of Vanilla (ensure you choose an extract or a paste as these are oil based and work with chocolate)
  • Put ganache in to a piping bag and pipe individual round shapes let this set until firm.
  • Roll in to a ball if necessary before dusting with cocoa powder, chopped nuts or dip in to chocolate.

Put in to presentation bags, add ribbon and give to your friends. Remembering to add all ingredients on to a lable incase of dietary issues.

On these cold January days, although getting out in the garden is often cold, it can also be very wet. Trying to keep the children entertained is quite often challenging. Sometimes, even the simple rice krispie cake recipes can be challenging but what if something is all done for you?
